NECA Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice 1/4 Scale Batman Figure Review By ShartimusPrime.

Not gonna lie. When I first heard of Ben Affleck taking on the role of Batman, I was not happy! But then after seeing the film, I was very happy with his performance! I was so happy that Batman was really one of my favorite parts of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and that also made me very excited for the 20 inch tall NECA Toys 1/4 Scale Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice BATMAN!! Will I be as happy with this figure as I was with Mr. Affleck's performance? Keep on reading to find out!

BAT-PACKAGE: The packaging design for this figure is remarkable. I love it! It has a huge window in the shape of the bat-cowl that allows you to see the figure from the knees to the head. It's great that they included a desimated Metropolis for the majority of the packaging design. The gray colors covering most of the packaging compliment the color pallet of the figure nicely. Of course we get the BvS logo front and center. On the sides we see some display options, as well as on the back. The contents of the figure are written on the back, and the very bottom left you can see the cast and crew responsible for making this huge, hunk of Bat-plastic!

BAT-ACCESSORIES:
There's not a whole ton, but just enough to kick up the fun-factor to another level. 2 pairs of hands, 2 batarangs, 2 grapnel blaster tips, and 1 grapnel blaster. The first pair of hands are his fisted hands, and both pairs have gold knuckles on them; fitted for the cheek of your friendly neighborhood Kryptonian. The second pair includes a left hand for holding the batarangs, and the right hand is specifically made for holding the grapnel blaster. I love that NECA included the removable thumb to make it easier for him to hold the grapnel blaster. The blaster looks awesome with all kinds of great dry brushing throughout. We also see copious amounts sculpted line-work that make it look very realistic. 2 retracted tips are included, but I wish one of them was sprawled out for some variety. Both can be plugged into either barrels (yes, there are two. He's Batman). Collectors also have the option of storing both on the side of the grapnel blaster as well. The last 2 accessories are his batarangs. They are not identical to each other, and like that! One of them is rounded off and a lot less ridged than the other. Both have the signature bat design and are painted in vibrant silver.

BAT-FACE: While I can't say I think NECA hit the Ben Affleck likeness perfectly, I still think it looks good. I have the figure next to me at the moment, and it makes me think Affleck. It looks like him enough, and with half of the face being covered by the cowl anyway, that sits fine with me. One important thing to note is that it looks like more detail went into the eyes with this figure than most figures I see from NECA. Light amounts of pink around the eye, along with multiple colors of brown for the iris really make it look realistic. I guess the part that is most unsettling though, is the length of the chin. It just seems a little longer than it should be, but not bad enough to compete with the All-Mighty Bruce Campbell. I like the that the stubble is actually sculpted around the mouth, and the flesh tone looks good with some color variation. The cowl looks great with all kinds of wrinkles and texturing throughout. You can see the sculpted jaw line and I like that it's made with a soft material.

BAT-BOD: I found it interesting that the torso and crotch of the figure are incased by a soft covering of pliable material to allow for articulation. I like this because NECA was able to deliver on the great paint apps and sculpting that they're known for, as well as give articulation junkies our fix. The gray parts of the suit have these small bumps and seems sculpted throughout that really make the figure pop! I also love that we get cuts and gashes in the entire suit, including the bat-logo. Unfortunately, due to the soft material covering the torso, it seems the bat-logo is a bit off-center between the tail and head (with the tail lining up with the left ear instead of the center of the head). The elbow and knee joints were not spared any sculpted detail as the little bumps and seems were included even in those areas! The gloves and boots look great with a very realistic leathery look, and I love the utility belt! The dry brushing over the gold just looks stunning! Lastly, the cape is made with a silky, soft fabric that looks cool and makes it very easy to manage. When splayed out, the batwing points on the cape are a little more subtle than I'd like, but the overall length of the cape makes me happy.

BAT-DANCE: If you wanted to make a stop-motion video of this figure dancing, it would not be that hard! Actually, the hardest part would be managing the weight of the figure. Keep in mind, this thing is solid plastic, so it is heavy . . . but also heavily loaded with articulation! The head can look up and down and turn side-to-side with ease. It has kind of a shifting joint at the neck where you can move it forward and back too. We get shoulder joints that move up at least 90 degrees, along with forward and back movement. It has great double jointed elbows, along with forearm swivel, wrist swivel, and wrist hinging for all 4 wrists. While the diaphragm joint on this figure works fine, the waste joint really helps most with the torso movement. Using both the diaphragm and waste crunch joints, he can bend forward quite a bit. Of course we get good side-to-side movement along with some pivoting movement. The hips are made with hard ratchets that allow the legs to move all the way outward, but not nearly as far forward; however, I found it to be good enough and the thighs also swivel. We get strong and stiff double jointed knees, along with side-to-side foot movement, down and up movement, and my beloved ankle pivot. I have to say ankle pivot on these giant figures can be scary (either not enough, or so loose that the figure falls easily), but the ankle pivot for THIS figure is strong with this one.

BAT-FUNCTIONALITY and CONCLUSION: This is a solid piece. I feel like NECA was successful in what they wanted to do for this figure. Interchanging the hands is easy, although I did come across some paint chipping. The figure holds the accessories very well, and the articulation makes the figure fun to pose with those accessories. I also need to mention that the plastic quality is very good. Nothing feels brittle, nothing broke while getting him into all these poses, and I feel very happy with it. My biggest grip with this guy is that I wish he was in the 7 inch scale. Again, this thing is TALL and HEAVY: standing 20 inches tall and weighing in at 4 pounds 8 ounces. So for anyone that hasn't done any heavy lifting in a while and you want to pick this up, you may want to lift some weights or hit the gym. I hope you enjoyed this review, and if you feel inclined to do so, please leave a comment. I'll catch ya guys later . . . PEACE!!
