Doctor Who Season Cut Short For 2012

Despite the news from last week
that Doctor Who star Matt Smith had signed on to do at least 14 more episodes of the his BBC series Doctor Who, it would appear not all those episodes will air in 2012.
Danny Cohen who is the Controller at BBC One was recently quoted on Twitter
by Wayne Clark, another BBC employee that Doctor Who would NOT becoming back for a full season in 2012. This revelation was made during a public event, and though 2012 would not see a full run of episodes, a special run was being planned for the anniversary of the show in 2013.
There was also a joke made during this event that the delay of episodes was due to producer Steven Moffat's commitments to another BBC show, Sherlock Holmes. It was later confirmed that this was a joke and nothing more.
It is unknown exactly how many episodes will make it to television in 2012, but hopefully the lack of Doctor Who in 2012 will only mean that 2013 which will be the 50th Anniversary of the series will be that much bigger.
